Code of Ethics

Code of ethics of sports officials in 10 points:

The Sports Official undertakes to:

  1. Know precisely and apply the rules and regulations as appropriate;
  2. Be fair and impartial and communicate clearly his decisions;
  3. Follow advanced training to get the knowledge and keep up the skills which correspond to the requirements of his level of practice;
  4. Be well prepared for every competition (top physical condition, punctuality, availability, appropriate clothing and equipment,..);
  5. Be and remain exemplary in all circumstances inside and outside the sports area;
  6. Be respectful of all participants in the competition (competitors, coaches, organisers, spectators, media, officials, …);
  7. Avoid any criticism or injurious comments towards other sports officials or the institutions they belong to or its members by whatever means (oral, written, published article, twitter, internet forums, blogs, social network sites);
  8. Behave beyond reproach (do not drink alcohol or smoke while in duty, do not use forbidden drugs, avoid inappropriate contact with competitors, …);
  9. Do not allow any conflict of interest (do not participate in betting on the competition, refuse any present of an inappropriate value and any improper remuneration,…);
  10. Show a spirit of sportmanship and promote the positive aspects of sport such as fair-play.

Sports Official’s oath at the Olympique Games:

« In the name of all the judges and officials, I promise that we shall officiate
in these Olympic Games with complete impartiality, respecting and abiding
by the rules which govern them in the true spirit of sportmanship »
